Job Description
A successful candidate will have 5+ years experience of enterprise level UNIX system administration/engineering. Data center environment consists of Mac OS X, IBM/AIX, SUN/Solaris, and Linux systems. This position is focused primarily on Red Hat Linux. You should also understand SAN, RAID, file system and IP networking technology.

Candidate needs to be proficient with the administration, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and writing of support documentation for Linux on x86 based hardware.

Job duties include standard administration (e.g., account creation, system audits, 3rd level troubleshooting) and engineering duties (e.g., patch installation, OS upgrades and installs, mentoring less senior level SE's). There is heavy project related work for bringing new solutions to production support.


Candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

- system startup/shutdown mechanics,
- Kickstart
- Package management (installation and building rpms),
- Modifying and rebuilding the linux kernel. i.e. Adding support for new hardware to kickstart bootdisks.
- Configuration of common applications such as apache, php, mysql.
- Diagnosing and identifying performance bottlenecks.
- virtualization technologies such as KVM and VMware.
- Grid computing

Analytical skills are required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is recommended but not required. One of the major requirements of this position will be to interact with multiple project teams across all disciplines (i.e., networking, database administration, application development and support teams, vendor support). The position is located in Cupertino, but some travel is required (<10% of time).

Additional skills preferred but not required include scripting in an administrative language such as perl, any shell, or 'C' programming. B.S. degree in computer engineering or related degree preferred but not required.
