Job Description

Reporting to the VP of Technology, the Data Group Manager will be responsible for setting and communicating the strategic direction of the Data Group including the database architecture related to OLTP, providing collaboration and support to the Data Products Group on new product development initiatives, database administration and development, business intelligence and data warehousing projects, including data integration, reporting, and analytics.  The Data Group Manager is expected to employ standards and best practices, design solutions, review business and technical requirements, and manage and oversee Clear Capitals enterprise-level database environment.  The successful candidate will lead and manage a team of in-house database developers, database administrators, and report developers to drive projects from inception to completion, therefore people management experience is required for this role. Candidates without prior staff management experience will not be considered.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate the strategic direction for the Data Group
  • Provide daily hands-on leadership, mentoring, and support to Data Group team members
  • Manage all data architecture, database administration and development, and data reporting, integration, mining, modeling and analysis efforts
  • Ensure the stability and integrity of all company data and database environments
  • Provide functional data support to the application development process, internal operations, and external customers as needed
  • Lead data modeling efforts in support of application design and development, Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW), including conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Actively contribute in the data product development process
  • Anticipate enterprise level data problems and develop proactive procedures and processes to counter
  • Provide expert knowledge regarding DW, OLAP technology and data management including data integration
  • Confer with customers, technical staff, and team members as a trusted adviser of data architecture best practices
  • Establish data management framework and work plans for implementation, lead development of an enterprise metadata repository
  • Ensure adequate documentation of technical and functional requirements are completed, such as SLAs, data availability, volume of data, response time, security and privacy
  • Provide leadership in planning, developing, and implementing a business intelligence strategy which includes operational data store, data warehouse, data mart, and analytical reporting repository   

 

Required Job Related Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline
  • 8+ years of IT experience in business and industry working in mixed database environments
  • 5+ years of demonstrated staff management experience, preferably in the area(s) of database architecture design, database administration, development, or integration methodologies
  • Extensive experience with Oracle RAC cluster database environments
  • Experience with Open Source Database technologies and mixed technology environments (e.g. PostGRES, Ingres, etc.)
  • Experience with data partitioning, PL/SQL, SQL
  • Effective client-oriented communication skills are essential to this role
  • Must have a solid understanding of systems development lifecycle and systems engineering role throughout the lifecycle
  • Working knowledge of data modeling tools (PowerDesigner, ERwin, ERStudio, Visible)
  • Working knowledge of logical and physical data modeling for both OLTP, OLAP and DW
  • Working knowledge of data dictionaries and meta data management
  • Working knowledge of data flow diagrams to demonstrate source data, transformation conditions and target data sources
  • Experience with data warehouse design and development
  • Experience with designing and implementing ETL solutions with industry leading software (Informatica, Ab Initio, and DataStage)
  • Skilled in analyzing client requirements and artifacts
  • Knowledge of data architecture, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and systems engineering competencies
  • Ability to work in an inter-disciplinary team of information technology professionals to deliver required customer deliverables
  • Demonstrated successful problem solving skills, excellent oral and written communication skills

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with geospatial databases and strategies are a plus
  • A solid understanding of the database administration (DBA) function, prior experience as a DBA would be helpful
