Skills: • Experience in Mainframe Performance with a background in database (DB2, CICS) and/or storage (tape, DASD) • Experience with some/all: JCL, MICS, MXG, SAS, SMF, RMF (I, II, III, PM), WLM • Familiarity with Compuware STROBE and/or CA-Tritune • Familiarity with IBM HMC functions • Familiarity with IBM’s Capacity on Demand • Familiarity with IBM’s Capacity Provisioning • Familiarity with IBM’s zPCR • Familiarity with MVS Solution’s ThruPut Manager • Familiarity with VM • Solid communication (verbal, written) skills
Additional items: • Willingness to work off-hours when necessary due to change windows, projects & workload priorities • Ability to make critical performance decisions with little advance notice at times • Ability to work with little/no supervision
Primary Job Responsibilities: • Monitor Mainframe z/OS images for performance issues/trends • Support 7x24 ONCALL rotations • Research capacity/response issues or observations for root cause • Create/analyze reports for projects, problems or adhoc requests • Participate on projects for new workload, hardware or functions • Create, stage & implement changes for applicable products (CPM, TPM, WLM, etc) as needed
Secondary Job Responsibilities: • Support quarterly Disaster Recovery Tests from the Mainframe Performance perspective • Collaborate with Capacity team to identify trends, diagnose capacity constraints & set appropriate capacity levels • Provide sizing recommendations for projects/features when necessary • Gather SMF/RMF data as requested from other groups • Write internal documentation as needed – group procedures, ONCALL status, etc. • Cross-train in other team member’s key areas of support
